Due to the reuniting of even more Upstage Alumni, we have found three new people from the photo collection!!! Hopefully they will join the site forums soon!It was a very productive trip and truly special to be able to meet so many in person!I look forward to the next time I am able to travel to NJ!!!
In case you might have heard, I was in fact on radio station 101.5 with Dennis in NJ on the way to the Airport, and was able to speak about John’s wonderful tribute as well as the website! It was a great opportunity (and hopefully not the last) to draw attention to the history and rising of Asbury Park’s entertainment district.
Regarding the position of the building and the city’s present state of affairs resulting from the management change in the waterfront developement:
Several new aquaintances from this trip could possibly open doors for the preservation of our Upstage Club Building. Nothing is concrete however with the shift of the city’s redevelopement plans and goals, it could possibly be that they are interested in the history contained as well as the possible draw for the city’s tourism.
After reading what they have announced on thier website and also to the Asbury Park Press and other publications, it would seem that the Upstage and it’s importance would fit right into thier new vision for the downtown area and the overall success of the town.
However, only time will tell if they are truly interested in integrating the building and the Club back into the city’s functions! The fact that the building has remained untouched even to today is very encouraging. Let us all put our heads together for the best most feasable way to save the building for the better,to emphasize the history of Asbury as well as bolstering the economy of the town.
This year is sure to be very interesting and hopefully fruitful.
Thanks so much for your continued support and interest!!!
Sincerely,
Carrie Potter-Devening
